Principal Psychologist

We are seeking a Principal Psychologist specialising in Eating Disorders to join an established specialist service in Bristol on a fixed-term maternity cover basis. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality psychological care for patients with eating disorders, combining direct clinical work with strategic service development and clinical leadership. You will lead on complex assessments, formulation, and evidence-based interventions, while providing supervision, consultation, and support to the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care across the pathway.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the psychological service for eating disorders, ensuring high clinical standards and adherence to best-practice guidelines.
• Provide expert assessment, formulation, and evidence-based treatment for individuals with eating disorders.
• Offer clinical leadership, supervision, and consultation to psychologists and wider MDT colleagues.
• Contribute to service development, outcome monitoring, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support the MDT in risk assessment, care planning, and complex case discussions.

Key Requirements

• Chartered Psychologist with current HCPC registration.
• Proven experience working within eating disorder services (inpatient, day programme, or community).
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, supervise, and support clinical staff.
• Excellent clinical formulation, communication, and report-writing skills.
