The shortlist for the General Practice Awards 2026 has been announced, celebrating the individuals, teams and organisations making a positive contribution to primary care across the UK.
More than 300 entries were submitted across 22 categories this year. Following the judging process, finalists have now been selected ahead of the awards ceremony, where the winners will be announced in December.
The shortlisted nominees reflect the wide-ranging work taking place across general practice. Their achievements include improving access to care, supporting diverse communities, strengthening the primary care workforce and introducing new approaches to chronic disease management.
The General Practitioner of the Year category highlights the contribution of GPs who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to patient care, leadership or innovation. Finalists include Dr Gail Allsopp, who has championed general practice and GP leadership, and Professor Vijay Kumar, who has been recognised for his leadership and commitment to patients in one of South Yorkshire’s most deprived communities.
Other shortlisted GPs have developed integrated approaches to long-term condition management, improved culturally competent care and supported healthcare delivery across large and diverse patient populations. The shortlist also recognises professionals working across multiple roles, including GP partners, PCN clinical directors, training programme directors and appraisers.
Alongside individual achievements, the awards celebrate work focused on patient safety, proactive care, digital innovation, respiratory services and workforce sustainability. Together, the finalists demonstrate the breadth of work being undertaken to improve patient outcomes and strengthen general practice.
The winners will be announced at the General Practice Awards ceremony on 4 December 2026 at Novotel London West in London. The black-tie event will bring together colleagues from across primary care to celebrate the achievements of healthcare professionals, teams and organisations across the UK.
